  1. It sounds logical but I still don’t get it. I may understand the sound part of things, like Dolby Atmos if the source player doesn’t have that, or the capability to hook a load of speakers to them, but it is the video portion that confuses me. What is the benefit of an already 4k Blu-ray player or PlayStation that can already output a 4k signal directly to your TV to hook that up to the AV receiver who will do the same?! I mean, does the AV receiver produce a better 4k image?! Does it make things a lot better video-wise? I’m so confused about what an AV can do better than the already great quality sources as I have mentioned in my examples.

  2. So, would a basic 5.1 system connected to an AVR (which cannot benefit from Dolby Atmos) be any better than something like the Sonos Arc Ultra soundbar, Sub Gen 4, and Era 300 surround speakers producing 9.1.2 with Dolby Atmos?

  3. Question. If I’m not using a streaming input like that Apple TV then what. Will utilize the wifi of the Samsung Tv and the apps within to view YouTube TV and prime. So I done have a source input that begins at the AVR.

  4. If we have this equipment for the home theater ( Compact Subwoofer 500-Watts + Surface Mount Loudspeaker 200-Watts with Multi-Tap Transformer + Surface Mount Loudspeaker 100-Watts with Multi-Tap Transformer ) , DO WE NEED a dedicated Bose Amplifier, or can we use the AVR ONLY? What is your recommendation, guys?

  5. What’s the benefit of plugging into the AVR instead of directly into the TV? Different audio profiles? I’m new to this but the idea of having to press a few buttons on a few different remotes is unappealing. Genuine question from home theater noob

  6. I have a smart tv that’s supports hdmi e-arc, and also have a 5.1 multimedia sound system. Do i need an avr in this case?

  7. Wish to upgrade my Polk Tsi 100 (using as surrounds) . Which would be a good surround upgrade? Ordered a new Denon AVC x4800 and the upgrades should be compatible with the receiver. Btw my fronts are Polk reserve R600 !

  8. He doesn’t explain what he’s saying. He says an “AV receiver”, not audio-video receiver. He doesn’t explain an AV receiver has an amplifier in it.

  9. Good video. Would recommend that you get as many channel AV Receiver, and as powerful as you can afford…. and do a 3.1 channel setup at first. The 3.1 would be: Two main fronts, a Center Channel, and a Subwoofer. Anything else after that is gravy. I have a 7.1 system. I can’t really appreciate the surround or the rear speakers that much unless I’m back there. If I’m on the (high back) couch, usually I just mostly hear the 3.1 speakers.

  10. I’ve got a Onkyo AV receiver HT-R 558 & a Epson EB SO3 Projector what’s your thoughts on these?

  11. you don’t explain what is the AV doing with video signal ? is it just a switch btwn video sources and – also maybe more useful – a device to synchro audio and video when watching TV ?

  12. So in theory: I can plug in a 4k player, game console, record player, and cassette deck into one receiver?

  13. Thank you for the video Lots of things to know. Which is better ONKYO TX NR 6100 or ONKYO TX NR 7100 Which Denon model can be compared or better than ONKYO TX NR 6100 , ONKYO TX NR 7100 . Suggest any other brands with the same features or better than them. The budget remains the same or within the same range.
    Thank you in advance.

  14. Going to the description to find the video on “how to set up a receiver” was absolutely a pain

  15. I currently have 2 speakers attached to the 3.5mm "headset" slot of my TV. I want to further improve the dialogue aspect of movies and tv series. Other than a google chromecast, no other extra devices are attached to my TV. I’m looking at AV Receivers and most of them are 5.1 or 7.1. I am thinking of getting a 5.1 but will use center, left and right only. I cannot have powerful subwoofer also. I want to avoid neighbor complaints.

Will not using all the channels of the AV Receiver ruin my watching experience? Am I better off getting 3.1 soundbars instead? The living room where the TV is in is about 20-25 sqm only. I am also a complete beginner.

  16. Greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽 que tal que marcas recomiendas de cables RCA para sub woofer que largo es lo indicado o normal y para bocinas surround y traseras que Calibre sería el indicado

  17. no. Why do I need an AV reciever if I dont care about surround sound? Then I might settle with a stereo reciever.

  18. thank you good sir! im starting my Home Theatre System next year and im gathering all the informations and how tos i need to kick start my project.

  19. So you hook a 4k Blu-ray player to AV receiver, and the AVR then connects to both your TV and to the speakers? The 4k player doesn’t need to connect directly to the TV at all? I have an LG C2 which doesn’t support DTS so hooking up the Blu-ray player to TV and trying to watch a Blu-ray with DTS X would not be possible, but it sounds like an AVR could solve that issue?

  20. So should I be connecting my 4k uhd PROJECTOR to the av amp to take advantage of its on board HDR HDR 10 , Dolby Vision to take full advantage of its video abilities. I also have a high spec Blu-ray player , so should this be connected to the av amp video inputs or to the projectors hdmi inputs ? I’m confused .

  21. Brother I’m a real fan of you. Actually I’m planning to set a home theater in my home long years back. But I couldn’t make it happen. Now this is the right time to make my dream happen. I need your help. Could you help me please

  23. Hey got a question! I have a Sony PVM-20L5 and I want to get a receiver for it. I use it for retro gaming and have the RGB/Scart cables hooked up to it via breakout cables. How would you recommend a setup with that PVM?

  24. How do I get wireless back surround speakers to work from an AV Reciever? I need the back speakers to be wireless (but I have access to power sockets for them just no way to run speaker wires from my AV Reciever). I have a Marantz NR1711 AV Reciever.

  25. I will buy x4800h and I want make a 5.1.2 , my home room it small 200 ft , with wardrobes and 2 bed , so if I buy x4800h with kef r3 meta R2 meta , kef q350 meta , subwoofer svs 1000 pro all with Dirac full I will get nice sound or I need arcam avr21? Just tell me the right equipment for good cinema on small room 5.1.2 , thanks

  26. my AV receiver is an older, tried and true pioneer VSX-515. i bought it brand new and i have probably had it 20 years, i think it’s 6 channels and i know it’s 100 watts per channel. i have a smaller room so i just have 2 polk bookshelf T15 speakers and a smaller center channel and rear channel speakers. i just ordered another pair of T15 polk and the polk T30 center channel. i am hopping changing the rear speakers and center speaker it will put a little more into my system. it’s difficult to afford to make many changes anymore due to space and money. i have my PC hooked to my 55" TV and hooked to the receiver for audio.

i really am kind of partial to the old pioneer, it has lasted me decades and still cranks decently. i do not believe it has HDMI ports

  27. Boy,bookshelf speakers sure have gotten bigger. Those wouldn’t fit on any bookshelf I’ve seen. Those are as big as my Klipsch Heresies.

  28. An AVR that can output or passthrough 4K @120hz costs as much as the TV. If you get a cheap AVR, what’s the downside of connecting the source directly to the TV and then outputting the TV to the AVR via optical cable for a 5.1 surround sound setup? Is there a loss of quality or options? Most TV and AVR can resolve lag through a setting if that’s the issue.

  29. Hi, what if the audio source is of bad quality, is there anything I can use to improve the audio quality and make it clearer/better?
    Thanks

  30. DENON has very bad service in India…DENON AVR-X250BT failed in less than 3 years and servicing cost almost the price of its costs.

  31. Hi, I have 2 jbl stage A135c center speakers vertical on the wall each side my tv. I also have 3 floor standing speakers in 3 corners, front left front right and back left corner.. I have 2 subs and 2 bookshelf.. my avr reciever denon AVR-X1700H.. I cannot have 1 center speaker above or below my tv so I need help trying to set these up best way possible.. I was thinking about using the back left or front right floorstanding speakers jbl stage A190 as a center? And use surround L/R for both my jbl A135c center speakers. Do you have any suggestions that may help

  32. Will it make a difference if I plug the Apple TV to my TV and have my TV sends the signal to the receiver then to the speakers instead of plug the Apple TV to the receiver? Will the sound quality be worse this way?

  33. Can you recommend a good reliable receiver under $2000 that is a 9.2 for a 5.2.4 I was looking at the Onkyo rz50 but I’m worried about getting one cause of all the problems with them that I’ve seen

  34. Will I always need two remotes? I can change my channel by speaking into the Comcast remote. Can I do this with an AV receiver remote?

  35. Doesn’t in make sense to buy the preceding model of an av receiver?
For example the Marantz Cinema 30 is $4,500 new, and one can buy the sr8015 less expensively…

  36. Sir I am a retired teacher. A really good one but in a different area. Highest compliments to you for your easy to understand approach and your friendly demeanor. You are excellent! May I ask a question? I have a big theater in my home. My weakest link is my receiver which was old when I bought it just to get my feet wet. I even spent $40 for a remote that it didn’t come with. I have never been able to figure out how to use the controller so I’m ditching it and buying a new proper receiver. Under a thousand dollars. Here is my most important question. Will I be able to precisely control the levels of every speaker in the system? I want control over each pair of surrounds as well as the center channel and so on. This is so important to me but it’s hard to get answers in the stores these days. Please let me know if this is possible and easy to do and if you have a recommendation for a receiver between $600 and $800. I have other amps a speakers that will be used so the receiver doesn’t have to be super powerful. Just controllable and easily. If you can help me I will owe you forever. Many thanks!
